She’s a Barbie girl in a Barbie world! Mattel has released a Stevie Nicks Barbie doll.
On Sunday night, Fleetwood Mac frontwoman Stevie Nicks debuted the doll on stage at Madison Square Garden in New York. The doll, available to purchase for $55, is the spitting image of NIcks.
Mattel featured all of the right details—from Nicks’ flowing golden locks, billowing chiffon black dress, and knee-high boots, the doll is a keeper in any collector’s stash. The doll’s look is complete with special accessories including a golden moon necklace and a tambourine with cascading ribbons.
As Stevie Nicks fans can imagine, the singer is a massive fan of the doll’s Rumours album-inspired look.
She explained, “When Mattel came to me asking if I would like to have a Barbie made in the Rumours cover style I was very overwhelmed.”
“Of course I questioned, ‘Would she look like me? Would she have my spirit? Would she have my heart?'”, Nicks continued, “When I look at her, I see my 27-year-old self. All the memories of walking out on a big stage in that black outfit and those gorgeous boots come rushing back, and then I see myself now in her face. What we have been through since 1975 — the battles we have fought, the lessons we have learned together. I am her and she is me. She absolutely has my heart.”
Nicks’ doll is only one part of the thrilling Music Series Barbies doll lineup from Mattel. Gloria Estefan, David Bowie, Elvis Presley, Elton John, and Tina Turner have also been honored with their own dolls.
Nicks told TODAY that Mattel initially approached her in March about creating the Barbie. The “Gold Dust Woman” singer shared that she even sent her Rumours outfit to the toy company to accurately re-create. When Nicks received Mattel’s first prototype, she was awestruck.
“I was like, ‘Oh, my God, these are real,” Nicks reminisced, “She’s the Rumours me when I was 29 years old. But she’s also me now. It sounds impossible, but it’s not impossible somehow.”
Nicks added, “Maybe that’s just the spirit of her — the spirit of Stevie Barbie and the spirit of me, blended together in this little person and it just emanates from her. She’s the memory and she’s the present — and everything in between.”
If one thing is certain, we’ll certainly be snagging one of Stevie’s dolls and turning on the Rumours album ASAP.
