“Every spring I pick a different black dress that can be versatile enough to wear to weddings, on date nights, and also has the ability to be dressed down with flats and a boho hat. I purchased the heart of marigold dress in black this spring as my go-to wedding dress, and ended up buying it in two more patterns because I couldn’t get enough of it!! ” –OOLA Editor Allison
Heart Of Marigold Wrap Maxi Dress: Our Review
With all of the hoopla over this maxi dress, I couldn’t let a good fashion staple pass me by, so I ordered the dress in rust-red. Since it’s a little late in the season I chose this color to easily transition it into fall with a leather bomber or jean jacket. The yellow and turquoise patterns are both on sale at the time of publishing, so if the $68 price tag is out of your range, you can snag it for as little as $49 in the yellow tropical print.
Once it arrived, I was taken with the quality of the dress, and how true the fit was. I’m a true medium and it fit like a charm. My favorite part of this dress is the adjustable ties at the waist. It gives the illusion of long legs, regardless of your vertical reality (Editor’s Note: I’m 5’3). I also loved looking through over 400 customer reviews and pictures that featured multiple body types. Thanks to the customer photos, I realized this dress has worn to almost every occasion I could imagine, and its versatility is endless.
On my maiden voyage in the dress, I went to a backyard wedding and received tons of compliments and inquiries on where it was from. I paired the dress with simple stud earrings, an understated necklace, and wedge heels. I felt like a goddess in this dress and cannot wait to dress it down and wear on a date night in the very near future. I wore pretty high heels so I did not need to get it altered. However, if you plan on wanting to wear it with flats and on the shorter side like myself, you might need to have it altered.
The only con I saw before ordering the dress was the dreaded words, “Hand Wash Only”. Since I like to live on the edge, and laundry rules rarely apply in my house, I rolled the dice and washed it in the washer on a delicate setting and let it line dry. The results from my hesitant experiment were great, and I’m happy to report the fit is just as good as it was new. I would agree this might mean the life of the dress might be cut short; I just don’t have time for handwashing my clothes.
In short, if you are looking for a go-to wedding staple dress, or just want to add a feminine flair to your wardrobe don’t pass on the Heart Of Marigold. I am sad I only have a month or so left to wear this, but I already can’t wait for 2021 to wear it way too much to all the events that were canceled in 2020.
