Donut titan Krispy Kreme is well-known for their cooky flavors that offer customers sugary goodness. Like any good franchise, certain flavors and menu items only last for a limited time before they’re locked away until next season. Well, Krispy Kreme heard us loud and clear and thanks to their Vote for Glaze campaign, one of their beloved flavors is making a comeback between August 27 – September 2.
The campaign let customers choose between four top flavors: blueberry, lemon, maple, and caramel. Over two million votes were cast between January 16 – 22 and it looks like lemon topped the charts and will now be brought back to participating Krispy Kreme locations.
The company released a statement on the winning flavor on their website and spoke with their Chief Marketing Officer, Jackie Woodward, about the latest addition. “Lemon won the vote, but we can’t glaze over the fact that the other three flavors all received a lot of support, even beyond the votes,” Woodward said. “Our fans’ passion for these flavors — and others — came through loud and clear on social media. So while the polls are closed, our minds are not.”
Additionally, Alison Holder, head of US Marketing for Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, told The Daily Times that the donut will combine everything about the summer, from the lemon zest to the original glaze. Holder said the donut is “an awesome way to stretch summer out just a bit longer.”
The lemon flavor beat out others by a long shot, coming in with 36 percent of the votes. Caramel was right after with 26 percent, blueberry with 20, and maple came last with only 18 percent of people voting it in.
Holder does have a point and it’s no surprise that this is the flavor customers went with. There’s nothing quite like a refreshing glass of lemonade on a hot summer’s day, so why not keep the party going with Krispy Kreme’s cherished lemon-glazed donut too? Be sure to head over to participating locations because once September 2 hits, this perfect-for-summer treat is leaving the building.
