Getting pigs in the blanket in my lunchbox was pretty much the best part of childhood. This simple recipe is easy to follow, will feed a big group, and will allow your guests to relive the carefree days of their youth.
The Perfect Pigs In A Blanket
Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 tube refrigerated crescent rolls
- 1 12-ounce package cocktail wieners
- kosher salt for garnish
Supplies
- knife
- baking sheet
- parchment paper
Directions
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Unroll the crescent rolls and cut each triangle of dough into three smaller triangles.
Place a wiener on top of the longer side of the dough. Gently roll toward the smaller side of the dough.
Once all the wieners are wrapped in dough, place them on the baking sheet.
Sprinkle each one with a bit of salt and bake them for 12-15 minutes or until they are golden-brown.
How To Make Pigs To Your Tastes
Change Up Your Dough
Tired of plain old crescent dough? You could easily use a sheet of puff pastry or refrigerated biscuit dough for your blankets. You’ll still need to cut the dough into even triangles or rectangles, though.
Get Cheesy
If your guests can’t get enough cheese, place cheddar cheese on top of your dough before rolling. You can get the cheese-stuffed instead of the regular wieners, too.
Make Vegan Or Gluten-Free Pigs
To make vegan ‘pigs’, wrap roasted carrots in dough. This variation will be a little easier on the ol’ heart as well.
If you’re avoiding gluten, substitute gluten-free cocktail wieners for regular wieners and make the dough from scratch (this recipe is simple and delicious).
Pigs In A Blanket Pairings
Pigs in a blanket are delicious on their own, but they’re even better with a good dip. Offer your guests ketchup, mustard, or ranch dressing. You could also pair the pigs with French fries or coleslaw.
Experience the good old days of elementary school — even if just for a meal — by whipping up some pigs in a blanket. They’re super simple, and everyone will love them!
