Oreo Truffles
Recipe
Ingredients
- 36 Oreo cookies
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup dark chocolate melting wafers
- 1 1/4 cup white chocolate melting wafers (divided)
Supplies
- food processor
- 4 small bowls
- stand mixer with a paddle attachment
- baking sheet
- wax paper
- pastry bag
- scissors
- mini muffin cup liners (optional)
Directions
Place the Oreo cookies in a food processor. Process until the cookies become fine crumbs.
Reserve 2 tablespoons of the cookie crumb mixture. Set them aside in a small bowl.
In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, combine the rest of the cookie crumbs with the cream cheese. Blend until a soft dough forms.
Line a baking sheet with wax paper. Using your hands, roll the cookie dough into 1-inch balls, and place the balls in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
Place the baking sheet in the freezer for 15-20 minutes or until the dough balls are firm.
Set out 2 small microwave-safe bowls. Place the dark chocolate wafers in one bowl and 1 cup of white chocolate wafers in the other. Melt the chocolate in the microwave according to the instructions on the package, heating the chocolate until it is completely melted and smooth.
Remove the dough balls from the freezer. Dip half of the dough balls in the dark chocolate and the other half in the white chocolate, rolling to coat them. Use 2 forks to help you coat them more easily.
Sprinkle the remaining Oreo cookie crumbs on the white chocolate truffles, ensuring that the crumbs stick before the chocolate hardens.
Prepare a disposable pastry bag. With a pair of scissors, snip a small hole at the tip.
Place the remaining 1/4 cup of white chocolate wafers in a small microwave-safe bowl. Melt the chocolate in the microwave according to the instructions on the package, heating the chocolate until it is completely melted and smooth.
Immediately pour the melted white chocolate into the pastry bag. Pipe the white chocolate onto the dark chocolate truffles.
Allow the truffles to harden before transferring them to mini muffin cup liners. Store them in the refrigerator. Enjoy!
Recipe Notes
We recommend Ghirardelli melting wafers for coating your truffles, since they coat evenly and smoothly. If you’re unable to purchase these and opt for an alternative, adding 1/2 teaspoon of shortening for each ounce of chocolate when melting will result in a smoother, more manageable consistency.
With their silky chocolate coatings and creamy, fudgy centers, Oreo truffles are positively addicting! These delicious homemade truffles are shockingly simple to make and perfect for any occasion. They are also amazingly versatile — adjusting an ingredient or two will make a world of difference.
How To Make Your Truffles Your Own
Oreo truffles are easy to prepare, and they’re just as easy to customize.
- Simply opting for another Oreo cookie flavor can drastically change the taste of your Oreo truffles. Try swapping out traditional Oreos for the golden, mint, pumpkin spice, or red velvet variety.
- Add almond, mint, coconut, or orange extract.
- Combine fruit preserves with your cookie dough for a unique fruity and chocolatey flavor.
- Garnish your truffles with nuts, sprinkles, coconut shavings, candies, or salted caramel.
Diet-Friendly Variations
Many ingredients in our Oreo truffles are not suitable for all diets. However, there are substitutions available for those looking to prepare this simple dessert.
Dairy-Free
If you can’t eat dairy, swap the Oreos for Back to Nature creme cookies. These are completely dairy-free cookies with no risk of cross-contamination with other dairy products. Substitute Enjoy Life mini semisweet chocolate chips for the melting wafers. Swap regular cream cheese for dairy-free cream cheese from Daiya.
Gluten-Free
If you’re gluten-free, the following brands make great gluten-free alternatives to Oreos: KinniToos, Glutino, Great Value, and Trader Joe’s. Avoid melting wafers by Ghirardelli or Wilton, since they may contain wheat. Use allergy-free chocolate, such as Enjoy Life mini semisweet chocolate chips.
These outrageously delicious truffles will make the perfect ending to any special occasion. Avoid the candy aisle and prepare these sweet homemade confections!
