Easy And Delicious Crockpot Meatballs
Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef, thawed
- 1 cup Italian bread crumbs
- 1 medium onion, minced
- 1 egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons parsley
- 1 tablespoon oregano
- salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
- 1 can crushed tomatoes
- 1 can tomato paste
- Parmesan for garnish
Supplies
- large bowl
- large skillet
- crockpot
Directions
In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, bread crumbs, onion, egg, garlic, parsley, oregano, and salt and pepper with clean hands.
Shape the mixture into 2-inch balls.
Place the meatballs into a large skillet. Fry them until the sides are thoroughly browned and cooked (about 6-7 minutes per batch).
Transfer the browned meatballs to your crockpot. Add the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste.
Cook on low for 4-5 hours or on high for 2-3 hours.
After the allotted time, serve with Parmesan cheese if desired.
If You’re Pressed For Time
If you don’t have a crockpot at home — or you don’t want to wait several hours before your meatballs are done — you can speed up the process. Toss your browned meatballs into a large pot and add your crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. Cover the meatballs and let them simmer for 10-15 minutes or until the sauce is hot.
If you’re really pressed for time, you can always purchase frozen meatballs instead.
Make It Your Own
Meatballs are versatile enough that you can experiment with seasoning and different sauces, such as honey garlic, barbecue, or a simple gravy. Some home chefs like their crockpot meatballs to have a bit of a kick, so don’t be afraid to add sriracha or chili flakes if that floats your boat.
Prepare your meatballs however you’d like, and sprinkle in whichever spices call out to you.
