This pandemic has turned life into a never-ending groundhog day. I’m stuck at home, no travel in sight, and I need something to spice up my life. Little did I know, it would come in a 9.2 oz jar. As I said, I have no incentive to tell you this. No one is paying me to push these sauces and I wasn’t even assigned to write this article. I asked to write about it. They’re just that good and I feel like I owe it to you to be the bright spot in your winter months and culinary routine.
Introducing OoMame.
What is OoMame?
OoMame is a chile crisp. I didn’t really know what that meant until we opened our first jar. Inside is a mix of what looks like little seeds of all shapes and sizes. It’s spicy, but not enough to make my nose sweat (which is my signature too-spicy tell). In reality, it’s chopped up chilis, dried fruits, seeds, oil, and other secret deliciousness. The jar says “1,000 Uses. One spoon.” OoMame comes in four flavors: Mexican, Moroccan, Chinese, and Indian. So far, Mexican is my favorite, but it literally changes after every meal.
OoMame Culinary Adventures
The flavor profiles in each sauce are so interesting. Each bite is a great mix of textures and flavors, spicy, sweet, crunchy, chewy. Somehow it all works. It takes boring chicken and makes it my favorite meal. I now open the refrigerator looking for something to put it on.
I haven’t worked through all 1,000 uses so far, but I do have a few favorites:
Mexican Chili Crisp: Amazing on eggs of any kind, quesadillas, tortilla chips, and plain avocados.
Moroccan Chili Crisp: Add it to hummus and serve with veggies.
Chinese Chili Crisp: Mix with almond butter and spread on toast (this was a very surprising delight), or add it to stir fry.
Indian Chili Crisp: Spices up cauliflower or basmati rice. Took my chicken tikka masala to the next level!
Do yourself a favor and order a jar and start spicing things up!
