Happy Cinco de Mayo! Whether you prefer frozen or on the rocks, classic or flavored, we’ve got the perfect margarita to help you celebrate.
Making a Refreshing and Delicious Margarita
Making a Refreshing and Delicious Margarita does not involve any neon-colored pre-made margarita mix. All you need is your choice of tequila (we recommend a blanco agave such as Patrón silver), triple sec or another orange liqueur like Cointreau, and limes for fresh lime juice (one per drink). Our recipe uses exact measurements, but it gets hard to measure after one margarita, so here’s a way to do it by hand.
First, wet the rim of your margarita glass with a wedge of lime. Pour some kosher salt on a small dish and dip your glass into it to create a salt rim. In a pint glass, juice one lime. If you hold your pointer finger horizontally in front of the glass, there should be about one finger’s worth, or one ounce, of lime juice. Double that amount of liquid by pouring in the same amount of triple sec/orange liquer. Now you have two fingers’ worth of liquid. Go ahead and double that amount by pouring in your tequila.
Now you have a pretty strong margarita. To add a little more citrus, stir in some orange juice. Or, make it fizzy bubbly by adding some Sprite or 7-Up. Or, add both orange juice and lemon-lime soda for a tasty margarita that won’t knock you on your tush.
How to Make a Skinny Margarita
Tequila provides a pretty good bang for its caloric buck. Our skinny margarita recipe is pretty similar to the one above. Both have fewer calories than margaritas that are made with a mix.
Our Frozen Strawberry Margarita Recipe
How about those who don’t care about calories and love a little sweetness in their life? For that, we offer Our Frozen Strawberry Margarita Recipe. Skip the ice by using frozen strawberries instead of fresh. Rim with sugar instead of salt.
Watermelon Margarita
Sip on some summer! Touted as “the most refreshing cocktail you’ll ever try,” our Watermelon Margarita involves an orange simple syrup. Simple syrup is as simple as it sounds. Just 1:1 ratio of water to sugar. Simply boil your let’s say one cup of water, then remove from heat and stir in your sugar. To make a flavored simple syrup like this recipe calls for, include the flavoring upon boil. So for orange simple syrup, put the orange zest in with the water then bring to a boil. Feel free to strain if you don’t want zest in your drink.
Four servings require two cups of seeded and cubed watermelon. Omit the tequila and optional triple sec for a non-alcoholic mocktail that is just as lovely, sans hangover.
Best Margarita Machines
As any margarita-lover knows, the easiest way to get to Margaritaville is via Jimmy Buffet’s margarita machine. Why use a margarita machine instead of a blender for your frozen concoctions? Well, a blender crushes ice, while a margarita machine shaves ice for an “authentic frozen concoction experience.” Margarita machines can also be used to shave ice for White Claw slushies, frosé, wine slushies, daiquiris, and piña coladas.
