Balancing a full-time job with our hobbies and social lives can be exhausting. Between making plans with friends and finding the time to catch up on some TV, we barely have the energy to make ourselves dinner. There’s always the option to order out, but who has that kind of money? Fear not, fellow adults, the only thing you need for our slow cooker chicken tacos is three ingredients and some time. This isn’t the swiftest meal to make, but the time spent cooking in the crockpot will free up precious hours you can use for other tasks.
3-Ingredient Chicken Tacos Perfect For A Busy Weeknight
Recipe
Ingredients
- 3-4 boneless chicken breasts
- 1 packet taco seasoning
- 1 cup salsa
Supplies
- Crock pot
Directions
Line the bottom of your slow cooker with the chicken breasts.
Sprinkle the packet of taco seasoning over the top.
Add the cup of salsa to everything.
Cook on high for 4-5 hours or low for 6-8 hours.
Additional Ingredients
Having a jar of salsa at home can save our butts in times of crises; it can top pasta, be used on burgers, and hey, what else are we supposed to dip our tortilla chips into? While salsa is a go-to taco topping, there are lots of additional ingredients you can use to suit your tastes.
Spices
Sure, the taco seasoning is a quick and easy way to get yourself out of a bind. Sometimes, though, we don’t have the packets on hand and need something in a pinch. Simply tossing in a bit of chili powder, oregano, paprika, onion powder, sea salt, cumin, red pepper flakes, and black pepper will recreate taco seasoning nicely.
If you’re feeling particularly adventurous you can add garlic powder, mustard powder, and cayenne pepper.
Garnishes
We can’t forget about those sweet, sweet toppings! Taco garnishes can vary to just about anything from your classic lettuce, cheddar cheese, and sour cream right through to cilantro, jalapenos, and guacamole (that’s extra, you know). A few dots of Tabasco sauce also never hurt anyone… well anyone who loves kicking things up a notch.
For a touch of citrus, you can turn to the classic lime wedge. Squirt a wedge or two over your taco once you’ve added your garnishes. The lime finishes off everything nicely, and you can use lemon wedges for the same effect.
And how could we neglect our beloved black beans and rice? At the end of the day, these two tend to make tacos and burritos what they are. If you’re looking into rice, think of Mexican or brown to get that authentic taco flavor.
These tacos may only need three ingredients, but you can dress them up however you like. Spices, rice, and garnishes will turn your taco into something truly special (and one that speaks to your personal tastes the best).
