Nutella is one of the best foods that exists, and we could likely all survive happily eating only Nutella forever. However, Nutella gets pricey and always comes in disappointingly small containers. If only we could make Nutella ourselves. Oh wait, we can?
Yes, thanks to this wonderful recipe courtesy of Leite’s Culinaria, we can make delicious Nutella and never again have to fear running out of this amazing spread. Here’s how:
Yield: 2 cups
Prep time: 10 min
Cook time: 20 min
Total time: 30 min
Ingredients:
1 cup hazelnuts
12 ounces milk chocolate, chopped
2 tablespoons mild vegetable oil (i.e. canola)
3 tablespoons confectioners sugar
1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 teaspoon salt, more or less depending upon your preference
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350F.
2. Lay out hazelnuts on a baking sheet and toast for about 12 minutes or until they’ve browned and the skins have blistered. Let cool.
3. Melt chocolate either in the microwave or in a double boiler. Let cool completely.
4. Using food processor, grind hazelnuts until they form a paste. Add oil, sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla, and salt. Process until smooth. Add melted chocolate, blend, then strain to remove remaining hazelnut chunks. The mixture will thicken as it cools.
5. Store homemade Nutella in a jar or resealable container, let cool to room temperature, then cover. This should keep on the counter for up to 2 weeks.
Yum! You will never have to buy Nutella from the store again. Enjoy, and let us know what you think!
