Do you love spicy foods and find yourself pouring Sriracha over everything? Don’t worry, Sriracha isn’t going away anytime soon, but it could have a new partner coming soon. The new spicy sauce on the market? Harissa. It’s a mixture of dried chilis, garlic, tomatoes, caraway, paprika, coriander and olive oil. Yum! Of course it doesn’t have quite the popularity in the U.S. as Sriracha, but it’s a common condiment in Tunisia. Although harissa is only used less than 3 percent of restaurants in the U.S., that’s a 180 percent increase over the past three years. It looks like harissa is slowly, but surely, making it’s way to the United States. Watch out, you might start noticing harissa flavored everything next time you hit the grocery store.
