Hi, my name is Carrington. It’s January 1st and I am a walking cliché. For the last month (let’s be honest—for the last nine months), I have eaten enough sugar and consumed enough wine to trigger a diabetic coma. I had a baby about a year ago and I still feel like my body is not my own. I, like everyone else you know, vowed that this year, I would get in shape for the new year.
Old me: Would just wing it, cut out sugar cold turkey, hope for the best. That usually ends up with my sugar crashing on day four, eating an entire sleeve of Oreos, and reassuring myself that I don’t mind my jiggly belly that much anyway.
New me: I’m going into 2021 with a plan. Before the New Year, I started trying to figure out what diet plan I could start that I could realistically stick with. After all, we’re in a pandemic, I have three small kids, and I’m addicted to sugar. Cutting out all my pleasures in life cold turkey doesn’t exactly seem realistic right now.

What I didn’t want (or have time for) was an app or a program that would require me inputting data into my phone all day to track what I’m eating. I didn’t want some crazy diet that would mean that I would have to create dramatically different foods than what the rest of my family was eating. I also didn’t want to cut off all the fun foods in my life.
I realized I really just needed to break my bad habits. In all my research, the thing that stuck out about Noom is that it wasn’t just a prescribed food list and meal plan; it was a way to help you rewire your brain to stop doing the self-destructive things that eventually lead to weight gain. Relatively speaking, I am not trying to lose a ton of weight. I’d like to drop 10-15 pounds to get back to my pre-baby weight. More importantly, I’m trying to change my relationship with food. So here I am, walking cliché and all, committing to reprogramming my brain and working out in the new year (maybe even a dry January if I can swing it), and holding myself accountable in front of our billions of readers (ha!) here on Oola. I can’t promise results, but I do promise I’ll be honest about the process and the journey…mistakes, slip-ups, and Oreo sleeves and all. More in a few days…
